The Friday Five - September 25, 2026

SHS Math and STEAM teacher Brian McDonald has been nominated to accept the Nat Seaman Recognition Award by the New York Association for the Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (NYSAER) for outstanding contribution with work for people with visual impairments in New York State. Human-centered design is a core proposition in SHS's STEAM program. Mr. McDonald's students product design skills have been put to use creating accessible tools for people with visual impairment and blindness. Congratulations Mr. McDonald!

This is a reminder that our schools' PTA membership drives end next Wednesday, September 30th. After that date, only families who are members of the PTA will receive PTA eblasts and be in the printed directory.

The 2027–28 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form is now open! Students who submit their applications early help to maximize their financial aid opportunities for college.

Under New York Education Law § 3201-b, school districts are required to establish procedures to review immigration authorities' requests to enter school property or take custody of a student, designate a specific person to handle these requests, and notify parents or legal guardians of their legal rights and protections. Districts were required to attest to the establishment of these procedures earlier this week, and to make them available to the school community. Our procedures follow the model policy required by the Commissioner and Attorney General, and can be found on our website under Parents --> Ed Law 3201b. 

Scarsdale High School will play host to a 16 team girls volleyball tournament on Saturday starting at 9 AM. Get out of the rain and support the Raiders as they compete against some of the region's best teams! Games will be ongoing throughout the day, ending around 6 PM.
